Progressive Undervalued My Totaled CR-V Until I Used My Right to Appraisal
When my 2023 Honda CR-V was declared a total loss, I expected the insurance company to pay me what my vehicle was actually worth. Instead, Progressive's initial offer came in at $31,715.84, and something didn't feel right.
Before accepting the offer, I decided to have someone review the valuation. I'm glad I did.
After reviewing the market data and the valuation report, it became clear that my vehicle had been undervalued. My insurance policy included a Right to Appraisal provision, so I exercised that right and I hired a public adjuster to represent me through the appraisal process.
They handled everything on my behalf, allowing me to focus on getting my life back to normal while they worked to resolve the dispute. In the end, the appraisal process resulted in a final settlement of $35,258.00, an increase of more than $3,500 over Progressive's original offer. Without the appraisal clause in my policy, I likely would have accepted the initial offer and never known I was entitled to more.
My experience showed me how important it is for consumers to understand their insurance policies and to know they have options when they disagree with an insurance company's valuation.
The Right to Appraisal gave me access to an independent process that resulted in a fair outcome. I believe every Montana consumer deserves that same opportunity, whether they're filing a claim under their own policy or making a claim against an at-fault driver's insurance.
